my house, your house theme

We have been enjoying learning about homes this December! We have learned about birds and their nests. The kids made the cutest nests! We made some great fox masks when we learned about foxes. And some fun fish bowls. Today we made snakes! and worked on our pattern making with the designs on the snakes.

We have also been talking about Christmas and made some fun reindeer and a cute little Santa. They are so excited about Christmas!

We have finished learning about our straight letters. So far we have learned k, l, t, v, w, x, y, and, z. Today we finished our circle letters c, and o. Now we will be combining those skills into circle and line letters. Starting with A, a on Monday!

I hope the kids have been enjoying the Baggie books! Remember its mostly pre-reading skills right now and learning to be responsible for things. Please please please do not let your child color in the books, get them wet, or bend them. Take care of them. They seem to be taking on some serious wear this year. The whole class shares a set, so remember to bring them on Monday's. if your child doesn't bring their book back, it makes another child have to wait to borrow it. I will try to switch them out on Mondays if I don't get to them, then they will be sent out on Wednesday.

January calendars were sent out today so hopefully you all got it. Don't forget to check for our field trip, and check when you have snacks. And don't forget we have show and tell every Wednesday.

they have been so much fun lately!

date correction

Today I sent home a notice for the Thanksgiving favorites feast. I put the wrong date on there. it is NOT on the 21st, it will be on the 19th as the calendar stated. sorry about the confusion!

also i sent home book orders for November for scholastic. do not feel obligated to order anything, it is just a cheap, fun way to get books for your kids.

halloween party!

It was a fun Halloween party! hope everyone enjoyed it. !

November is here.

November is here! In November we are learning about our colors. And our shapes. We will be learning about one color everyday and making something with a shape. If you would like to, you can have your student wear the color of the day to class. That's always fun!

I will be sending home Baggie books soon. They are the Sam or the bob books, simple readers. These are the same books they use in kindergarten. I know some of the kids are not ready for them and some are. So please let me know if you would like me to start sending them home or not.

For those who have kids that are still learning their letters please make sure you are working with your children on their letters at home as well. They need repetition. If you need any ideas on how to help your student at home, let me know I would be glad to help!

Don't forget, there is no school on this Monday, Nov. 5th. As Davis County School District is having their teacher prep day.

Thanks for all you do! As they say practice makes progress!

happy hallooooweeeeeeen!

We have been busy busy around here. We did a mini unit on apples. We worked hard on our scissor skills and I think they are doing great! We cut out an apple and glued the apple puzzle back together. Another day we cut out number apples and matched them with number blocks on the apple tree. We told the story of a little red house with no windows and a star inside. Then cut open an apple to find the star inside. Today we measured each other to see how many apples we are tall. They liked that!

We have learned about letter v and we are working on the letter w. I also started sending homework. Thanks for everyone for your help with that. I will be sending home Baggie books soon!

As we are headed into cold and flu season I ask that you please remember to keep your student home if they are sick. We want to keep our classroom healthy. Thanks everyone for your understanding with me canceling school when I was sick. I did not want to pass that on. But I want to reassure you I have not canceled school like that before and hopefully we can keep a healthy class so I won't have to again.

I have sent home the November calendar make sure you get it out of their back pack. And don't forget that the Halloween party is Wednesday! Can't wait to see them all in their costumes!

Thanks for all you moms do!

our big big world.

October has been fun. we are learning all about our big big world. we learned about space, and our planet. then all the countries and that we live in America. We learned our Pledge of Allegiance. we learned about Utah, about our neighborhoods, our houses, and our families. today we learned about our phone numbers. I went over each of their phone numbers with them individually, but please make sure you go over their phone numbers and their address with them at home. Those are two of the things they need to know for kindergarten, and they are also one of the harder things for the kids to remember so repetition is important!

Thanks to all of you for coming to the pumpkin patch field trip! It was so much fun! We have been enjoying some fun Halloween songs! you should have your student sing them to you, they are great singers!

For Halloween we will be having a class party! Make sure your student is dressed in their costume! We will be "trick or treating" to each other and practicing safe trick or treating so send a treat with your student. it will be fun!

I will be sending home homework starting next week. please have your child do what they can on it and bring it back so they can get a sticker on their homework. i know some of them are not ready for homework, and that is okay. Just the act of taking it and bringing it back teaches them responsibility. So don't forget to check their backpacks.

And don't forget there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow. Enjoy your day off.

Thanks!

September is gone

It's been a whole month! Can you believe it?! I can't. We have had so much fun talking about our amazing bodies. We made some skeletons, we did some great scissor skills to feed our paper mouths. We did the hokey pokey with our hands. We listened with our ears and watched with our eyes. we smelled different things with our noses and talked about our 5 senses. But I think our favorite part was painting with our feet. (Well favorite for some of us, some of us would rather not have painted with our feet!) but we had fun playing outside anyways!
This month had been a fun one with getting to know each other, playing and learning. And of course being silly!
They have been learning some fun songs. A-Tootie-ta is a fun one. A I'm a nut (I'm a little acorn round). The months of the year (done to the time of the Macarena. Yes we are that cool!) and the days of the week. (Sung to the Adams family tune)
October should be just as fun. We are learning about our big world! Starting with the planets and ending up in our own house.
October calendars were sent home last week. Please make sure you have them. We have a lot going on. Our first field trip on Monday the 8th to black island farms. More information will be sent in an email (instead of posted on the blog).
The kids had a great time doing show and tell. Remember they can bring a toy or something fun to show on Wednesday. I ask that toys stay home on other days. Thanks!
I sent home scholastic book orders this week (also in their backpacks). I'm excited about these. i just love books! If you would like to order something please go online and submit your order. It's the quickest and easiest way to order them. I will be closing the order in the 3rd of October so make sure to get your order in before then. (If you need any help logging in let me know!)
Thanks to all of you for getting the kids to school on time and ready to learn. Thanks for all your help with the snacks! And thanks for letting me teach your kids!
I just can't wait to jump into October!

friendship, watermelons, all about us

wow! we are moving right along here at school.hard to believe that we have been in for two weeks now! the kids are getting used to the routine and working with each other. Preschool is such a fun time.

the first week we talked about how to be a friend and then we went on a scavenger hunt around the room looking for our watermelon that was hiding. this helps the kids learn where things are in our classroom. then we had a little math, art, and science fun with our watermelon. we measured with blocks how tall and long our watermelon was, then we tested it in a bucket of water to see if it would float or sink... it floats! then we ate our watermelon. yum! we made a match game and got to use scissors.

the second week here we started into our unit on our amazing bodies. we talked about our feelings, decorated pictures of ourselves, and talked about our hands and feet. today was fun, while learning about our feet we went outside and painted with our feet! they had a blast. i tried hard not to let them get paint on their clothes. it is washable paint so it should wash out. but they may have blue feet for a few days! they spent half the class painting. then we played in the grass outside.

i will be sending home October calendars tomorrow so watch their backpacks

we will be doing show and tell on wednesdays. every child can bring one item to show the class. that day at stations they will have the option of playing with a toy if they bring a toy instead of playing at a station. all other days i ask that toys stay home (if they sneak into preschool we will just keep them in their backpacks) thanks!! if they don't want to bring a toy for show and tell they can always bring something else you approve of.

i'll try and send home emails often so you can know what they are learning

where did April go? and important info

I have NO clue where April went. It's gone and I never updated you all on what we did. we had fun learning about gardens and how they grow and what fun things you can grow in a garden. Sorry i didn't send out more updates!

with May here, I will let you know we are learning about opposites and will be working on our class graduation program.
Each child will have a part to say in the program. I will send the parts home so they can practice them. (they are short I promise!) I am sending home an invitation with the program details.
Monday the 7th is backwards day and crazy hair day! Clothes backwards and hair wacky. and yes you can reassure your child that even Miss Hanah will be silly.
We are also going to have CLASS PICTURES on Wednesday the 9th. We will be taking them the first part of class on next Wednesday. Please make sure your child comes dressed ready for pictures. :) Miss Ashley, Dax's mom will be taking them for us. I'm excited about them!

so make sure you check your child's backpack for reminders. I don't want anyone missing this information. I can't believe the end of the year is so close! makes me a little sad! I'm going to miss these cute kiddos!

neigh, cluck, cock-a-doodle-do, and maaa.

We would be great farmers! learning about farm animals has been so much fun. Horses that work hard, chickens that give us eggs, Roosters that wake us up, and goats that well.. eat things. (we learned about leprechauns too but i don't think they live on a farm!)

Thursday the 29th of March, we are going on a field trip to Hamblin Dairy Farms. 3454 W. 2700 S. Syracuse. Field trip starts at 9:30. Please only students, moms (or dad's) and siblings. They only allow 25 people total. (all together, including the siblings that usually come, we are at 23 so we should be fine.) This should be a really fun field trip!

Down on the Farm.

Yee Haw! we are learning all about farms. Pet day was so much fun. It was cute to see all their different pets and have them tell us all about them! We learned all about how a farm works. Then all about cows and their job on a farm. We even made our own butter, and got to eat it. It was a lot of fun! Today we learned about sheep and how we use their wool to make clothes. They thought that was pretty cool.

This Thursday is our Saint Patrick's day party. Should be lots of fun! make sure to have your child wear green! Then don't forget that Monday the 19th there is no school.

Community helpers

Our month on community helpers was a great month! we covered every kind of community helper from bankers to veterinarians. and today was a great day to finish off with the kids talking about what their parents do for career day. The kids were so cute standing up in front of their class doing their presentations. I can tell they have been practicing, they did a great job! We also celebrated leap year today! we held leaping contests, and did lily pad counting for math. it was fun!

Please make sure you are checking backpacks for notices and calendars for important dates. Some of the kids were unaware of the career day we had today. If your child was one of the ones that missed it today we would love to hear what their mom or dad does for work tomorrow, or next Wednesday. We just have them do a small presentation in front of the class telling us what mom or dad does for work. they can bring visual aides, pictures, or come dressed up. it doesn't have to be very long. it's always fun to see them talk about mom or dad.

To kick off Farm month on Monday March 5th,  is PET DAY! another day the kids have been looking forward to! on pet day each child will be able to bring in their pet to share with the class. if your child 's pet is too big, or excited, to bring into the class then you can have your child bring in pictures, or draw a picture of their pet, and things that they use to play with them. if your pet is brought in a container, and can stay, you are more than welcome to leave it with us for the whole class. if your child does not have a pet they can bring a stuffed pet or a drawing of a pet they would like to have one day or a picture of a neighbor pet they love. Should be a lot of fun! (if you have a pet that can't stay, but still want to bring, feel free to bring them at the beginning of class and let the kids see!)

will you be my Valetine?

Our Valentines party is on Monday! We made Valentines boxes on Wednesday (when we talked about mail carriers) and the kids are so excited to fill them with valentines! Please make sure to send a Valentine for everyone in the class with your child on Monday. There are 8 kids total in class (including your own child). We welcomed a new little girl to class this week. I don't know who is more excited for her to be in class. Her, or the other kids! If you need a class list email me or text me and I'll send you the names. I just love your cute little kids!

today we had a guest speaker come in. Nurse Jenell talked about how nurses are community helpers and what they do. they had so much fun! She let them listen to their hearts (and bellies) with a stethoscope, she brought scrubs for them to wear and surgical hats, and gloves. they had so much fun playing nurse/doctor with the babies in our dramatic center. So much fun to have a guest speaker in class.

the wheels go around and around...

what a fun month this has been! we used our size comparison skills to outline trucks with straws and lids, then painted with cars, built tractors out of shapes, went on a field trip to the fire station! then we talked about recycling and garbage trucks, used our imaginations and pre writing skills to make a story about bikes. we made paper airplanes and flew them around the room. we floated boats in water, made pattern trains. (they are REALLY good at patterns!) and we finished it off with monster truck puzzles.

So much fun and so much learning! math, science, writing, patterns, letters, numbers, and applying it all to what is happening around us. they have been having fun! our letters this month were Aa, Bb, Dd, Ii, and Pp.

february is all about community helpers. we have a field trip on thursday the 23rd to great harvest bread, and a valentines party on monday the 13th. then on wednesday the 29th we are talking about what YOU do. yep, your child gets to come in and talk to the whole class about what you as a mom or a dad do. i'll send more info home when it gets closer. :)

i enjoy teaching these kids every day! they are so cute and i love seeing them learn so much and excel! thanks for giving me the opportunity to do so. if you need anything at all please let me know!

(and yes i COMPLETELY forgot to switch books today and send home new ones. so if your child still has one just send it wednesday and i will switch them then!)

what we've been up to...

We have been having a great time in preschool. The kids are learning so much. They are really doing well with their writing, and their numbers. I hope they are enjoying reading their books at home. Remember that it's just to get them used to reading, kindergarten is where it will really sink in if it hasn't already.

A few things coming up: Thursday the 12th is the fire station field trip! It starts at 10:00am at they Syracuse station (1869 s. 3000 w.) it usually lasts about 45 minutes and is always a big hit!
Monday the 15th there will be no school for Martin Luther king Jr day.

As a reminder please don't park in the driveway when dropping off or picking up your child, as backing out is not a safe thing to do with so many little ones around.

This month we been talking about transportation. The fire trucks at the station should a great reinforcement. So far we have used straws to outline trucks, and cars to paint tracks with. Today we put together tractors.

We have moved on from straight letters to circle letters and now we are on circle and straight letters. A was last week and this week is B.

I'll post about our activities again soon!
